An Interview with a Hair Restoration Expert at Triangle Trichology

A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of interviewing Megan Murray from Triangle Trichology, who offers an integrative approach to hair restoration. I am genuinely grateful for the time she dedicated to answering my questions and expanding my understanding of the causes of hair loss and various restoration methods. Below are some key insights she shared from our two hour conversation.

My first question was: "Who benefits most from this hair restoration technique?"

Megan: "This approach is particularly effective for individuals with male or female pattern baldness, alopecia areata (patchy hair loss), hair loss related to menopause, postnatal changes,

and certain autoimmune conditions."

I was genuinely impressed by how many different conditions this treatment could address- whether hormonal, health-related, or physical. Naturally, my next question was: "Who might not benefit from this approach?"

Megan: "This treatment is less effective for men with a "shiny" scalp, as prolonged hair loss often makes restoration a challenge. It usually takes a long time for genetic hair loss (AGA) to become irreversible (typically 10-30 years). Clients with nutritional deficiencies, hormonal imbalance and autoimmune conditions must be treated with a multi therapeutic approach. Meaning If they aren't willing to fix the internal issue the hair growth won't last. Success can vary with age, and older clients may experience reduced efficacy. It’s crucial to address any underlying health concerns, maintain a balanced diet, and pursue hair restoration early, as delays may lead to permanent hair loss. Traction alopecia is almost always irreversible unless caught super early."

Her mention of diet prompted my next question: "Could you clarify what you mean by maintaining a balanced diet?"

Megan: "Many people don’t realize the critical role protein plays in their health. Protein is the fundamental building block of hair, as hair itself is composed primarily of protein. If we don’t consume enough, hair can begin to shed, since it is one of the body’s least essential components from a biological standpoint. Iron and iron absorption issues are also major components to hair loss and breakage. There are many minerals and nutrients that are extremely important to maintaining the natural hair cycle and regrowing hair. It can get pretty complicated but thats why I am here to guide them!"

I also wanted to address the consultation fee: "At $200, what factors contribute to the cost of the initial consultation?"

Megan: "The consultation can take hours, as I thoroughly review each client’s health history, bloodwork, lifestyle, and nutrition. My goal is to establish a comprehensive foundation for their treatment plan, as this is a significant investment for them. Sometimes, I even recommend delaying treatment until they are in a healthier state, rather than proceeding immediately, because my priority is achieving lasting results. Hair loss is often an emotional topic, and working through this process with clients can be intensive for both of us."

I asked Megan, “If your client improves their diet and overall health to optimize the treatment’s benefit, what is the success rate of the TED treatments and exosomes?”

Megan: “You’ve probably heard of  PRP scalp treatments, which are marketed for hair regrowth. While they’re quite expensive, they typically only yield up to 20% hair restoration at best. In contrast, with TED treatments and exosomes, I find that 20% improvement is usually the baseline, with results often exceeding that. The success rate for TED is significantly higher. I’ve dedicated extensive time and money in attending medical conventions and specialized training to master these treatments and achieve optimal results. Many med spas have the same machines, but hair restoration isn’t their primary focus, so they often don’t achieve the same outcomes. This is my specialty, and I’ve developed a deep understanding of how to maximize the effectiveness of these technologies.”

I was genuinely impressed by Megan’s confidence in her expertise and the depth of her research. Naturally, I wanted to learn more about the cost of these treatments and what the ongoing maintenance would involve.

Megan: “The cost is typically $2700 for a package of three appointments, which breaks down to $900 per session. For optimal results, treatments are spaced one month apart. Maintenance will completely depend on the type of hair loss someone has and what those underlying issues are. If we can stabilize the issue and get the hair cycle back on track, maintenance shouldn't be necessary. If you are dealing with genetic hair loss though, maintenance will likely be required but will depend on how progressive your case is. Generally, clients with AGA will also need to do something to block the DHT (hormone that causes hair loss) from within.

I asked, “Beyond in-office maintenance with you, are there any at-home care routines you would recommend?”

Megan: "There are absolutely things you can do for at-home treatment and maintenance. They can just be time consuming and will always take much longer to see the results. You generally see results within 4-12 weeks with TED and Exosomes. In comparison, at-home treatments don’t typically begin working from 6-9 months if you are lucky and you must be extremely diligent with your routine to see results."

My final question was whether there were any additional benefits or side effects associated with TED treatments.

Megan: “Yes, beyond stimulating hair growth, the treatment also improves the quality of the hair, making it shiner and healthier. Some clients choose to continue the treatments simply because they enjoy the way it enhances their hairs appearance and texture. Additionally, while not a guaranteed effect, the treatment can sometimes darken white hair. This has drawn some men who not only want to thicken their hair but also appreciate the darker tone. However, this effect isn’t always permanent. It is amazing for scalp health as TED is directly feeding your follicles with nutrients, proteins, amino acids etc. It can take a dry/flakey scalp and it will be hydrated and happy after one treatment."

In conclusion, I was thoroughly impressed with Megan’s expertise and approach. Her treatments seem to offer a far more effective and sustainable solution to hair loss compared to alternatives like extensions and toppers, equally expensive and potentially damaging to natural hair. Her confidence and knowledge left me seriously considering trying the treatment myself. I also believe this is an incredible service to recommend to my clients with hair loss as it is painless and fairly low maintenance.
